Corrective Method for Status-Quo Bias by User's Inputting Reason for Selection and Presenting Criticism Information.

People tend to prefer to maintain the status quo when making decisions, a tendency called the status quo bias. This study designed a method inspired by the reversal test, a method used only in ethics discussions to remove status quo bias, and applied the reversal test to the other fields using a computer interface. In the proposed method, users input reasons against changing the status quo and then view the counter-argument information for the inputted reason. The proposed method encourages users to change the status quo by distinguishing between justifiable and unjustifiable reasons. The experimental result showed the proposed method can encourage users under status quo bias to change the status quo.
