Horizon extraction using absolute seismic phase obtained by unwrapping techniques

Automatic detection of horizons and other geological structures of interest is often employed as a preliminary step in seismic interpretation. Although necessary, the identification and extraction of horizons can be a laborious and time-consuming step for the interpreter. Therefore, we present a semi-automatic horizon extraction algorithm based on the absolute phase of seismic data obtained through phase unwrapping techniques. We assess the algorithm accuracy and robustness in several examples, including noisy data sets. In addition, we present comparative results between two phase unwrapping methods, showing their robustness when associated with seismic horizon extraction. We compare the results obtained by our methods with the results obtained by seismic horizon extraction algorithms available in the literature.
