Advances in Functional Imaging for Sinus Disease
Advances in clinical radiology(2023)
Abstract
Functional imaging integration into conventional structural and morphologic imaging protocols augments the diagnostic imaging of neoplasms, incorporating the analysis of microarchitectural features, including extracellular viscosity, tissue cellularity, and local blood flow kinetics, which may be altered in the pathologic setting. Within the head and neck, challenges persist due to the unique anatomy within this region, associated imaging compromises, and the lack of standardization of functional techniques. This article comprises a brief introduction to functional imaging methods within the sinonasal region, focusing on diffusion-weighted and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI, as well as studies examining their clinical application.
