•Crewed overflights monitor space–time variability via infrared thermography (IRT)•Monoculture (FS) or afforested (iCLF) pastures have different microclimates.•IRT and in situ meteorological station measurements are concordant.•There is a lower incidence of megathermal spots in the iCLF system in all seasons.•Remote sensing with IRT identified zones that could improve animal thermal comfort.
