摘要
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) commissioned Communications and Power Industries (CPI) to develop a new 3.0-Mw, pulsed, 402.5-MHz klystron to use in the Drift-Tube Linac (DTL) of the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). The new klystron must utilize the existing high voltage oil tank and fit within the available vertical space, while at the same time produce 20 percent more output power than the existing DTL klystrons. To achieve the higher output power, an increase of 4 amperes in beam current would be provided with a reduction in minimum efficiency from 58 percent to 56 percent. Performance requirements and specifications will be presented and compared with test results from the first Engineering Prototype.
