Graphene-modified Phase Change Microcapsules for Thermal Storage and Electromagnetic Energy Absorption

As electronic devices rapidly advance towards miniaturization and integration, heat accumulation and severe electromagnetic interference inevitably occur within limited spaces, impacting the lifespan of the devices. Applying composite material as a board in electronic device applications enables electromagnetic shielding and heat absorption. In this study, melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) co-condensed resin was used as the wall material, while paraffin (PA) served as the encapsulation core material to prepare MUF/PA phase change capsules. Through tests such as SEM, DSC, TGA, and infrared thermography, the MUF/PA capsule demonstrates ideal morphology, good thermal performance and excellent leak-proof capability. Subsequently, a small amount of graphene was added to the core material, forming composite phase change capsules capable of absorbing microwaves, which can improve electromagnetic interference problems. This present strategy of phase change microcapsules has great potential to apply in energy storage devices.
