The primary objective in monitoring kidney transplants is to promote the longevity of the graft, prevent complications, and enhance the recipient's overall quality of life. Traditionally, the assessment of kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) has involved the routine evaluation of serum creatinine levels and the performance of biopsies when clinically necessary. Approximately 10-20% of transplant centers incorporate surveillance biopsies into their protocols.
