Fatty-Acid Stabilized Magnetic Nanoparticles as Tags for Biodetection: Unravelling the Role of the Surfactant

Magnetic nanoparticles can act as reporters in rapid diagnostics test when the quantification of the analyte is needed. In this work, we studied three different iron-based nanoparticles synthesized by coprecipitation as potential tags for inductive biosensing. We proved that an efficient covering of the polymer is needed to avoid uncontrolled agglomeration during the bioconjugation process to allow for a reliable quantification.
