Burnout among health personnel at the Mohammed VI university hospital in Marrakesh - Morocco

Introduction. - Healthcare facilities is difficult working environment, which expose workers to a high risk of burnout. This is one of the most frequent problems among health professionals. Objective. - To estimate the prevalence of burnout among healthcare personnel at the Marra-kesh University Hospital and identify the associated factors. Methods. - We conducted a cross-sectional study among health professionals working at the Marrakech University Hospital, during the period from January to March 2021. Data collection was done via a self-administered online questionnaire containing 4 parts: (1) socio-professional data. (2) The burnout factors perceived by the participants. (3) The level of satisfaction assessed by a Likert scale from 1 (totally satisfied) to 5 (totally dissatisfied). (4) The "Maslach-MBI Burnout Inventory Test" questionnaire in French version, which is divided into 3 dimensions, namely emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment. A descriptive and bivariate analysis was performed using SPSS software. Results. - 191 healthcare professionals responded to our survey. The average age was 29.3 +/- 4.7 years with a sex ratio of 1.17. Among participants, 97.4% (95% CI [94.9%, 99.8%]) had burnout in at least one of the three dimensions. Regarding the three dimensions, 60.2% of our participants had a high degree of emotional exhaustion and 59.7% had a high degree of depersonalization. While 73.3% had a low degree of personal accomplishment. Various factors have been associated with the dimensions of burnout. Conclusion. - Professional burnout is a worrying problem that affects health professionals. The-refore, necessary preventive measures must be introduced and reinforced in order to reduce the prevalence of the burnout.
