A Hybrid Precoded-Companding Scheme for PAPR Reduction in OFDM systems

This letter proposes a hybrid precoded-companding scheme (HPCS) in which the orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signal is initially precoded using the Zadoff–Chu sequence, and the intermediate signal is sine companded to minimize the peak-to-average-power-ratio (PAPR) value of the OFDM signal. It is evident from the simulation results that for OFDM signal with 512 and 1024 sub carriers, the PAPR value is reduced by 64.38 and 51.13%, respectively, when compared with the QPSK modulated OFDM signal. Also the bit error rate (BER) performance at the receiver is improved by 5.61 and 4.66 dB when compared with the original OFDM signal.
