•A novel hydrogen diffusion model coupled with CPFE framework was proposed.•The GB energy and HS jointly determine the distribution of hydrogen.•Hydrogen diffusion along GB is affected by the concentration within the grains.•Alloys with medium-sized grain microstructures exhibit good hydrogen tolerance.
