Synthesis of calcium silicate hydrate nanoparticles and their effect on cement hydration and compressive strength

•Calcium silicate hydrate nanoparticles synthesized under ambient conditions.•The particles were added to a cement composite to confirm hydration properties.•The calcium silicate hydrate nanoparticles acted as nucleation sites.•Concentration of generated harmful ions was reduced through a cleaning procedure.•Initial hydration calorific value and compressive strength increased.
