A Novel Multi-Section Lumped Element Topology for Wilkinson Power Divider Design

This paper proposes a novel multi-section lumped element topology that combines Chebyshev impedance transformation ideology and lumped elements to design a multi-section power divider suitable for application in integrated circuits. Unlike the traditional multi-section Wilkinson combiner topology, the proposed power divider is optimized through separate even-mode and odd-mode analysis, resulting in a compact circuit layout and lower insertion loss than traditional π-network lumped element circuits and other LC laddered topologies. Subsequently, a two-section Wilkinson power divider was designed and optimized to validate the multi-section Wilkinson power divider topology and theoretical analysis. Simulation results suggest that the proposed power divider offers a bandwidth of about 15 GHz, covering the Ka and K bands with a small size and low insertion loss.
