A combined adsorption and photocatalytic regeneration process for crystal violet wastewater treatment with KBiO 3

This study reports the application of KBiO 3 as both an excellent photocatalyst and an effective adsorbent for the removal of crystal violet dye (CV) from wastewater. CV was rapidly adsorbed from water at a removal rate higher than 90% within 60 min by following the pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm models. The captured CV was then completely photodecomposed in the adsorption and subsequent photocatalytic regeneration phases, thus resulting in an effective adsorption capacity regeneration of KBiO 3 . This proposed photodegradation-assisted adsorption reveals the efficiency of combining adsorption and photodegradation processes in the treatment of wastewater as it does not require secondary treatment of the organic pollutants, has a low cost, and is environmentally friendly.
