Metasurface Based Reflective Polarization Converter with Wideband and High Efficiency Functionalities

We propose a metasurface based polarization converting device (M-PCD), which successfully convert EM waves with incidence linear polarisation (LP) into waves with orthogonal polarisation (OLP). Unlike previously reported structures, the proposed device offers LP-OLP conversion within an ultra-wide frequency band under wide oblique incident angle. The proposed device comprises of two periodic layers divided by an air frame. The top of the unit cell, composed by two oblique symmetry double split rectangle rings, two cut wires and lumped resistors joining the both split rings to assists wide frequency band, whereas metallic ground sheet at the bottom supporting the layer. The simulation outcomes demonstrate that within a fractional bandwidth of 95% from 7.92-22.35 GHz with a PCR over 0.88, the y/x-polarized incident EM wave transforms into an x/y-polarized reflected wave. Additionally, the designed device display stable polarisation functionality across a broad spectrum of oblique incidence angles up to 30°. The designed device an excellent choice for a diversity of applications, including radiometers, and reduction of radar cross section (RCS) for X, Ku, K band.
