A Method of Designing Low Side-Lobe Slot Waveguide Antenna by Embedding Metal Pins

This paper introduces a method of designing a low sidelobe slot waveguide antenna by embedding metal pins. We adjust the height of the metal pins under the radiation slots in the waveguide cavity to realize the Taylor distribution of the radiation power, to achieve the required low sidelobe design. Based on the above method, a low side-lobe 10-slots waveguide antenna operating in X-band is designed, and the operating bandwidth is 130MHz. Five metal pins with different heights are used to achieve -20 dB low sidelobe Taylor weighting. The VSWR of the antenna is less than 1.7 in the range of 10.02-10.13GHz, the maximum gain is about 15.65 dBi, and the side lobe level is less than -25.2 dB. The simulation results verify the feasibility of this method.
