Hints and ideas on customising the EMC engineering approach for CubeSat projects

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is a critical discipline in ensuring the reliable functioning of CubeSats. However, CubeSats are typically very small satellites that have limited space packed with various electronic systems. The unique features of CubeSat projects - such as their small scale, short development cycles, and a higher tolerance for mission failure risks - asks for a customised EMC engineering approach that strikes a project-specific balance between maintaining an essential reliability and the benefits of the low-cost and fast development cycle. In this paper, some hints and ideas for customising EMC engineering for CubeSat projects are presented. It is focused on a selection of essential parts, e.g., basic EMC requirements, analysis, designing and testing.
