Efficient Simulation of Large Scale Metasurfaces Accelerated by Characteristic Subdomain Method

In order to perform simulation on metasurfaces with quasi-periodic structures efficiently, a new technique based on hybrid finite element-boundary element-domain decomposition method (FEM-BEM-DDM) is proposed to reduce computation resources consumed during processing. Due to the geometric repetition existing in these models, the mesh of the entire array is expanded from limited sets of characteristic arrays, which generated by units at specific positions of the original array. With this technique, repetitive pre-processing, matrix filling and matrix-vector multiplication can be saved. The accuracy of the proposed method is validated through comparing with commercial software, and the results are in good accordance. And the new technique reduced approximately 75% memory requirement of the traditional FEM-BEM-DDM, which ensures efficient simulation on arrays with quasi-periodic structures.
