Analysis of Glider Motion Effects on Pumped CTD

Currently, it remains controversial whether observations of pumped CTD will get affected by motion adjustments of underwater gliders. In this study, a type of ignored motion-induced CTD errors were investigated. Specifically, the generation mechanisms of such errors were first explored to identify the key influencing factors. Then the relationship between these factors and the glider motion was established, which was validated through two different field experiments. It is suggested that the motion-induced CTD errors cannot be calibrated so far. Therefore, additional buoyancy frequency test and flow rate test are recommended to ensure data quality.
