Single-layer Polarizing Reflectarray Unit Cell Designs Based on a PSO-driven Optimizer

This paper presents a tool for generating unit cell designs for a single-layer reflectarray (RA) that also accomplishes linear-to-circular polarization conversion. Those designs are based on an optimizer driven by the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm with a fast analysis technique using a 2D method of moments (MoM) electromagnetic (EM) solver. Four sample unit cell designs were developed in this work with an acceptably efficient and accurate optimization process, providing a 1 GHz operating band centered at 20 GHz and a 90° phase step among all the designs.
