Effects of Nb and B addition on intrinsic magnetic properties and phase of TbCu7-type Sm-Fe-Co-Nb-B alloys

The influence of Nb and B contents of TbCu 7 -type Sm-Fe-Co-Nb-B alloys on magnetic properties, including coercivity, saturation magnetization, and anisotropy field, was examined with the goal of enhancing coercivity of TbCu 7 -type Sm-Fe-Co-Nb-B alloy. Nb and B in the TbCu 7 -type phase were found to affect intrinsic magnetic properties such as the anisotropy field. Specifically, Nb and B addition decreased and slightly increased, respectively, anisotropy field of the TbCu 7 -type phase. The improved anisotropy field upon B addition contributed to realizing high coercivity for the Sm-Fe-Co-Nb-B alloys.
