Retrieval Effective Electromagnetic Parameters of Honeycomb Absorbing Materials

In this paper, a method for extracting the effective parameters of honeycomb absorbing materials is proposed. The method in-volves transforming the honeycomb absorbing structure into a homogeneous slab of anisotropic material, based on reflection and transmission coefficients obtained at two incident angles and polarizations. Through the equivalent permittivity and permeability, the reflection and transmission at arbitrary incident angles can be calculated effectively. Analytical expressions are derived to retrieve the equivalent medium parameters. To demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the theory, the method is applied to simulate and predict results on a honeycomb absorbing composite. Furthermore, the mono static radar cross section (RCS) of a perfect electric conductor (PEC) plate covered with the honeycomb absorbing composites and the effective slab are calculated, the results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
