Forensic parameters and population structure based on 21 autosomal STRs with the investigator 24plex QS in mestizos from the Mexico City population

•In the analysis of 21 autosomal STRs in Mexican Mestizo from Mexico City, the combined power of exclusion (PE) and Power of discrimination (PD) were 0.9999999921 and >0.999999999, respectively.•This population database of 21 autosomal STR markers is adequate for human identification purposes and kinship analysis.•The Fst genetic distances estimated between individuals from Mexico City and from other geographical regions, including the Native American reference, were significant.
