Active Driver Assistance Systems for e-Scooters based on Road Quality and Driving Style Estimation

E-Scooters are spreading in urban scenarios and becoming an important player in personal and shared micro-mobility. Along with their diffusion come significant risk5, which call for the development of dedicated safety-oriented driver-assistance systems. In this work, we present an innovative approach that goes in this direction, proving that inertial sensors can be used to monitor both the vehicle and the driver's safety status, by estimating in real-time the road profile quality and the driving style. Extensive experimental data prove the data-driven approach's effectiveness, paving the way for innovative tools for the automated monitoring of these fast-spreading light vehicles.
