Magnesium ☆

Magnesium is a predominantly intracellular ion and serves a variety of physiological functions in living cells. Its primary role is as a cofactor in many enzymatic reactions, especially those involved in energy production and ATP utilization, some of which support electrolyte gradients. The kidneys control and regulate magnesium balance. Derangements of Mg homeostasis have been implicated in a variety of diseases, and magnesium supplementation may be therapeutically useful in some cases.
