Endoscopic-Assisted En Bloc Pterygomaxillectomy: Identifying an Efficient and Safe Location for the Pterygoid Osteotomy

Introduction: Tumors of the maxillary sinus represent 1.5 to 3% of head and neck malignancies. Tumors involving the pterygomaxillary suture are more challenging for en-bloc resection. The pterygoid plates are often resected after the maxilla has been removed. There is a lack of anatomic studies describing in detail the anatomical steps of an en-bloc pterygomaxillectomy and anatomical landmarks for safe and effective location of the pterygoid process osteotomy.
