Performance assessment of CIGS solar cell with different CIGS grading profile

Global emphasis has been focused on photovoltaic (PV) technology since it is thought to be the most advantageous way to meet the world's rising energy needs. This work makes use of CIGS-based solar cells due of their high absorption coefficient, stability, and affordability. The CIGS material system has a tuneable bandgap that can be adjusted. The “grading” of bandgap over the absorber's thickness can enhance the performance of solar cells. Therefore, a SCAPS-1D approach is used in this work to investigate solar cell efficiency. The performance of CIGS solar cells is analysed using the linear and parabolic grading profile. Grading appears to have a significant impact on the performance of cells. The efficiency achieved is 19.95% and 21.10% for the linear and parabolic grading respectively. Therefore, results presented in this publication may spark more enthusiasm in this material among researchers who work in the field, encouraging them to construct this structure and explore other options for increasing its effectiveness.
