Cover: Corrosion of stainless steel ropes from a nominally austenitic alloy in seawater may result in hollow wires. This phenomenon was replicated by electrochemical tests and analysis of EBSD data indicates the susceptibility to such preferential axial corrosion being much more related to crystal orientation than to the amount of α'-martensite induced by cold drawing of the wires.
