Determination of Glycolysis Flux by Extracellular Flux Measurements

Glycolysis is a metabolic pathway that breaks down glucose into different products and generates energy. By using the Seahorse extracellular flux (XF) analyzer, glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation pathways can be estimated simultaneously. The users do not need multiple instruments, hazardous chemicals and compounds, and a high number of cells or tissues or spend much time analyzing the data. Furthermore, the technique is very versatile, and it is possible to analyze these parameters in adherent or suspended cells and/or in tissues. The glycolysis stress test kit allows examining different parameters translated in alterations of the extracellular acidification rate, giving a more complete overview of the behavior of the cells or tissues in a specific situation. So, the evaluation of the metabolic profile of the cells and tissues through the Seahorse XF analyzer offers numerous advantages relative to other methods. The flexibility and ability to perform real-time measurements by this technique can often allow one to deduce pathway engagement.
