Cluster analysis of cloud-to-ground lightning activities near transmission lines in typical terrains

Due to the influence of different climate conditions, terrain and other factors, the distribution of thunderstorms is very different in different regions. It is of significant practical value to study the lightning distribution law in complex terrain. In this paper, the local terrain division of transmission line area is carried out, and the improved clustering analysis method based on DBSCAN algorithm and options algorithm is used to obtain the temporal and spatial distribution of lightning activity in different terrain. According to the results, it is found that the temporal and spatial distribution of lightning activity is slightly different in different terrain. Among them, the coincidence degree of the movement tracks of cloud-to-ground lightning with the Canyon air duct and ridge terrain is relatively higher, while coincidence degree of the tracks with the valley and river terrain is slightly lower. At the same time, frequency of cloud-to-ground lightning and return stroke peak current before and after a lightning activity passing through different terrain are analyzed to further analyze the influence of terrain on lightning activity. This study can provide engineering reference and theoretical reference for the future differentiated lightning protection work.
