Specific Soft Computing Strategies for the Digitalization of Infrastructure and its Sustainability: A Comprehensive Analysis

The need for advancement in monitoring is reorganized on increasing awareness about the social and economic impact of infrastructures in the development of the nation. Infrastructure development directly affects the environment, faces various issues during the construction process, and over time structures degrade and deteriorate, making them unsafe to use. So, the need for monitoring and controlling to gather all types of information regarding the structures eventually became a necessity for making them safe, secure, and reliable. Industry 4.0 digitalized tools implementation in the infrastructures have brought a huge revolution in the construction industry by utilizing them in various ways for different purposes including monitoring and controlling the infrastructures. The study goal is to talk about how the Industry 4.0 tools help in monitoring and controlling the infrastructures and leading to attaining sustainability. The significance and application of the various digitalized tools: Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML), Blockchain, Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR), Digital Twin, Metaverse, and Robotics in various components of the infrastructures have been addressed and discussed. The result shows that sensor connectivity with the help of IoT, AI and ML can lead to more enhancement in monitoring and controlling the infrastructures in the future without more intervention from humans. Some future recommendation for further enhancement of the monitoring method for various components of the infrastructures has also been discussed.
