44399 A Comparison of Melanomas Diagnosed Through Teledermatology Vs. In-Person Visits
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology(2023)
Abstract
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, teledermatology (TD) increased in use and has continued to be utilized in many practice settings. Studies have shown TD is a promising tool to identify the majority of malignancies. However, little data exists to compare melanomas diagnosed by TD to those diagnosed through in-office visits. We retrospectively evaluated 618 patients diagnosed with melanoma in the UPMC health system between March 1st, 2020 and March 20th, 2022 and compared those who initially presented via in-person appointment versus TD.
