Abstract
Cancer cascade genetic testing, or the process of genetic testing at-risk relatives for pathogenic mutations discovered in the family, affords relatives the opportunity for genetically targeted personalized cancer risk reduction and early detection. Cascade genetic testing has been designated as a tier-one genomic application by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, there is a paucity of literature evaluating cascade testing among racial and ethnic minorities. The American Society of Human Genetics recently issued guidance calling for a need to increase the representation of underrepresented communities in genetics and genomics research. We sought to review the literature to evaluate rates of cascade genetic testing among racial/ethnic minorities and determine the inclusion rates of minority populations in these studies.
