摘要
Pertussis is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable disease that continues to cause death and disease, particularly in infants and the young. The predominant manifestation is paroxysmal coughing, lasting up to 100 days. The only means of control is immunization. Maternal immunization with an ap (acellular pertussis) vaccine reduces infant deaths from pertussis and is well tolerated. All countries are encouraged to ensure high rates of vaccine coverage; to ensure maternal, infant, and young child vaccine schedules are adhered to; and, where resources permit, to consider adolescent immunization. Ensuring quality vaccines are administered and undertaking disease surveillance at the country level are also highly recommended.
