Extracellular Vesicle Mimetics: Preparation from Top‐Down Approaches and Biological Functions (Adv. Healthcare Mater. 19/2022)

Extracellular Vesicle Mimetics Extracellular vesicles mimetics (EVMs) prepared from top-down approaches exhibit superiority both in production and biological properties as potential alternatives of extracellular vesicles (EVs). By extruding through membrane filters with decreased pore sizes, EVMs can be produced in a large scale. In article 2200142, Chenhui Gu, Liqing Shangguan, Xianfeng Lin and co-workers summarize the preparation and characteristics of EVMs in terms of structure, composition, targeting ability, cellular uptake mechanism, and immunogenicity, as well as their strengths and limitations. The clinical applications of EVMs in the fields of tumor therapy, immunomodulation, tissue repair and disease diagnosis are also discussed.
