Fusion Approach for Enhancement of Microscopy Images Using Morphological Filter and Wavelets

The microscopic view of blood sample examined under a microscope is termed as microscopy images. The visual quality of such images is not so reassuring due to its acquisition via lens of the microscope. Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) has been useful for improving the visibility of foggy images; the contrast enhancement and edge sharpening can be done using Morphological Filter (MF). In this paper, an approach of fusing the responses of the aforementioned filters is proposed using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT). The Image Quality Assessment (IQA) of the image fused is estimated to adjudge the quality characteristics of different responses provided by the filter. Increased values of the IQA parameters depict that the output images are noises free, have better sharpness, and contrast so as to differentiate the bacterial clusters properly from the background.
