Thermal Expansivity

Saltwater thermal expansivity could be an essential thermophysical property when expansivity is important such as “gate height” for the precise design of multi-effect thermal desalination technologies. This chapter introduces the thermodynamic approach, multicomponent models, correlations, and data that estimate the saline water thermal expansivity at different salinity, temperature, and pressure values. Existing experimental data of seawater thermal expansivity are used to compare and assess the accuracy of the values obtained from the correlations and methods. Some correlations and methods are recommended based on their accuracy and operating conditions. In addition, the codes of methods used to calculate the saltwater thermal expansivity are provided.
