Promoting sustainable consumption

It will take a concerted effort using all available means to accomplish the required sustainability transformations. Governments need to make necessary infrastructure investments, especially investments in renewable energy. Economic instruments are needed to correct market failures and to speed up the diffusion of more sustainable solutions. Information and education are needed to build understanding and knowledge about natural processes and boundaries, and to teach and guide effective action. Legally binding standards are effective means to abolish unsustainable technologies and practices. And there are many cost-effective “nudges” that can be utilized to make right choices easy, also in the context of sustainable consumption.
