McAninch is a clinical associate professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Gerontology, and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University Medical Center. She has a BA with Highest Honors in mathematics from Smith College and earned her MD at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She then completed her internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. In her early career, her research focused on thyroid hormone metabolism and action with translational applications aiming to preserve thyroid hormone homeostasis in patients with hypothyroidism. At Stanford, her clinical practice focuses on functional and structural thyroidology, as well as management of other endocrine neoplasia.
