Identification of Responsibilities for the Use of Devices Incorporating Artificial Intelligence in Health: Systemic Review

Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in health care results in ineluctable changes in medical practices, be they spacewise and timewise, or else while providing health care and medical services. All this, however, should not distract us from ethical considerations, especially those ralted to protecting patients’ privacy, safety as well as practitioners’ full legal liability for incorrect use of such devices. The present study seeks to put forward a conceptual model illustrating regulation standards related to the use of devices including AI in the process of disease diagnosis or treatment throught identifying the different stakeholders’ responsibilities, including patients, health professionals and system developers. Materials and Methods: The present research is based on a systemic review for the period between [2012–2022] using a combination of subject-related keywords (responsibility, using, artificial intelligence) and three databases: “Web of science”, “Scopus”, “Pubmed”. The selection of the review is developed by the PRISMA method. Results: The findings of the query resulted in the selection of 43 out of 703 papers, including articles and chapters dealing primarily with the main complex ethical and societal issues brought about by AI technology and how these technologies affect individual and collective stakeholders’responsibilities. The synthesis of the documents has also made it possible to invoke a conceptual model with regard to the different types of responsibilitie, such as the responsibility for the collection or sharing of confidential data, responsibility with regard to AI machines decisions and actions or else the responsibilities for maintenance and control measures.
