摘要
1% of bipolar disorder. No psychiatric conditions were reported in 35% of the study population. At baseline, 29% of patients (n = 83) were prescribed psychotropic medication for mental health symptoms of mood disorders; 34% (31) of this group did not make any changes to their medications, 20% (17) reduced their dosage or number of medications, 30% (25) needed additional medication or dose increases, and 4% (3) changed at least one of their prescriptions to another medication during the first year of ETI treatment.Overall, most maintained consistency in their type, frequency, and dose of their psychotropic medication, but for participants who needed dose or medication adjustments, most had a history of anxiety and depressive symptoms. Those that needed increases were almost evenly split between adults (aged >21) and children (aged 6-20).Most initiated treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), specifically sertraline or escitalopram, or had dose increases of these drugs. Conclusions: Overall, many adults and children with CF have a history of anxiety and depressive symptoms, but most have not required psychotropic medication. For those that required medication, chart review indicated that mental health symptoms necessitated an increase in dose or number of psychotropic medications about 30% of the time. Most treatment adjustments involved the use of SSRIs to address often-cooccurring symptoms of anxiety and depression.
