摘要
Humans and herpesviruses (HSV) have probably been linked for thousands of years. In recent decades, research has explored many aspects of herpes virus infections, from severe infections to mild or subclinical manifestations. There are several conditions that are associated with herpes virus reactivation, ranging from immune-regulatory modifications in the elderly to transplant-related complications. Traditional manifestations of the herpes virus in the oral region are well known. Most people will experience some manifestation of labial lesions and stomatitis in their lifetime. The lip lesions often heal on their own but are recurrent. In the etiology of a variety of diseases, other HSV have been considered emerging pathogens. New mechanisms of HSV infection are being discovered through ongoing research. A comprehensive understanding of HSV infection during both productive and latent infection would allow the development of new antiviral agents and vaccines, as well as a better understanding of cell and molecular biology. This article describes all HSV-related pathophysiology and the key aspects of its infection.
