Photosynthetic microorganisms, especially microalgae and cyanobacteria, have been well-developed as novel biomaterials with their beneficial bio-functionalities. Moreover, by integrating the unique properties of distinctive functional materials with photosynthetic microorganisms, constructed Material-decorated Photosynthetic Microorganisms (MPMs) could foster diversified biomedical functions, thereby envisaging plausible clinical practice. In article number 2203038, Bengang Xing and co-workers provide an account of the current MPM research advances while simultaneously illustrating the biomedical application in detail of smart cargo targeting delivery, oxygen-dependent synergistic theranostic platform, macro-sized living photosynthetic scaffold, and their future outlook.
