Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation

Limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) is a major cause of corneal scarring, which accounts for 5.1% of blindness worldwide [1]. LSCD can be caused by varying etiologies, which can be congenital or acquired in origin. It is characterized by the triad of conjunctivalization of the transparent corneal surface, neovascularization, and recurrent or persistent epithelial defects [2]. This in turn can lead to intractable ocular surface inflammation and scarring, ultimately affecting the patient’s vision and quality of life.
