Abstract
Polyurea on its own brings about strength and ductility due to its two-segmented structure. With properties such as thermal stability, anticorrosion, and high viscoelasticity, polyurea composites are a good candidate for construction, fertilizers, coatings or blast mitigation. Polyurea composites include introducing miro-sized fillers, woven and nonwoven fibers, and functional polymers to the polyurea matrix. The interaction of said fillers could be physically or chemically bonded. Polyurea composites with woven-glass fiber or woven carbon fiber can increase the fracture resistance and stress concentration of polyurea coatings. In another scenario, functional material could induce dielectric properties into the polyurea matrix exhibiting high dielectric constant and high breakdown strength. Moreover, reinforcement with irregular shape fillers could reduce the spalling effect on metal, reducing the porosity of the polyurea coatings. This chapter will review the various composites of polyurea with a clear description of their functionalities, properties, and applications in the research world.
