Pd‐Catalyzed Switchable Access to Imines and Amines from Secondary Alcohols

This work describes a switchable access to imines and amines from secondary alcohols using a Pd(OAc)2 catalyst. The synthesis of imines occurs through acceptorless alcohol dehydrogenation (ADC) under optimized conditions. Notably, when the catalytic reaction is performed in a closed system with a base, a switchable behavior is displayed, favoring the selective formation of corresponding amine products through borrowing hydrogen (BH). Moreover, Pd(OAc)2 has also proven successful in obtaining valuable N-heterocyclic indoles from the produced imines, demonstrating the significant versatility and potential of this protocol.
