Two-dimensional (2D) materials have recently received a lot of interest due to their unusual electrical, optical, and mechanical capabilities. Metal dichalcogenides (MX2), in particular, have emerged as a potential family of materials for a variety of applications. There is significant interest in investigating non-layered 2D metal dichalcogenides with various structural types, even though most investigations have concentrated on the layered structure of MX2 materials. Owing to the fascinating properties, 2D non-layered materials are attracting dramatically increasing interests, and great progress have been made in the synthetic strategies and applications of 2D non-layered materials over the past few years. In this chapter, we outline the recent progress of 2D non-layered chalcogenides and advances in their synthetic methods and applications.
