Electrochemical Metal Dating

Electrochemical techniques aimed at data archaeological metal artifacts are described. These are based on the assumption that, under favorable conditions, there is the possibility of date estimates by monitoring the progression of the corrosion/aging processes. Available methods for dating lead, copper/bronze, leaded bronze, and gold using the voltammetry of immobilized particles are described. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods complement these. Recent advances based on an in-depth analysis using multiple-scan voltammetry for dating copper/bronze and gold are presented, accompanying a prospective on dating several other metals.
