Pigments and Paintings I

This chapter describes the application of solid-state electrochemical techniques to identify pigments in paintings. Available methods include both inorganic and organic pigments, and data treatment using Tafel-type analysis of voltammetric curves is discussed. The interaction between pigments and accompanying materials in pictorial samples (binding media, varnishes) is discussed. Nanoscale identification and mapping of pigments using scanning electrochemical microscopy are described.
