Metallic Heritage: Electrochemistry of Metal Objects

The direct analysis of metallic objects used as working electrodes is discussed. Potentiodynamic polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and open circuit potential measurements are described. Modeling associated with these techniques and a short summary of other available techniques are presented. Electrochemical techniques aimed at preserving metallic heritage, namely selective removal and anodization, protective coatings, and chloride removal/metal stabilization techniques, are described.
